Which Online Mattress Is The Best For You?

Answer 4 simple questions below to get a personal recommendation on which mattress may work best for you:

Mattress Finder

How Our Independent Mattress Reviews Work:

The best online mattress in the UK is likely to be the one that gives the overall best value for money. That means it probably won’t be the cheapest, nor the most expensive.

But it will have a good level of quality, excellent comfort and support, a fair returns and warranty process, good customer support, and, above all, be priced at a fair level for what you get.

Our online mattress reviews look at all of these key points. We always remain objective and will highlight both the pros and cons of every single brand we review.

Our team of experts judge the performance of each mattress on a range of factors. We use a combination of our own experience and research alongside genuine customer feedback. This allows us to give a rounded opinion and rating based on what we’ve found.

At-A-Glance Ratings:

Our table above makes it easy to compare online mattresses, but, how about a quick overview of the details behind the ratings? Here’s the lowdown on what our independent online mattress reviews found out about each brand:

#1 – Ergoflex 5G (Our Rating = 9.7)

Ergoflex Review

Currently one of the best-rated online mattresses in the UK, the Ergoflex 5G scores highly in every single department.

Firstly, it’s one of the few online mattresses to offer true orthopaedic support. It also has all the standard anti-allergy and cooling features you’ll see with most other brands.

It’s a highly comfortable mattress too, though it does have a relatively short trial period at just 30-nights. That said, that should still be long enough for most people.

While not as heavily advertised as some other brands, the company behind the mattress have been around since 2006. That means they are well established and are trading off the quality of their product rather than their advertising budget.

You can find out more in our full Ergoflex mattress review.

#2 – Nectar (Our Rating = 9.5)

Nectar Mattress Review

The Nectar mattress boasts both the longest trial period in the industry (365 nights) and the longest warranty period (lifetime), too.

That shows the confidence the brand have in being the right choice for you as well as their manufacturing quality. Naturally, that comes at a price and the Nectar isn’t the cheapest brand around. Though you may be pleasantly surprised to find it’s still fairly reasonably priced.

The levels of support are excellent and the mattress performs really well when it comes to absorbing motion transfer. That means that as far as all-round performance goes, there aren’t many that can claim to be better.

Nectar also gets added bonus points for manufacturing all of it’s mattresses in the UK while also being climate neutral certified.

#3 – Simba (Our Rating = 9.4)

Simba Mattress Review

Arguably the best hybrid mattress in the UK, the Simba mattress has some really cool technology that helps it stand out in the market.

Almost every layer of the mattress has been specially designed just for them. There’s a layer that uses graphite particles to draw heat away from your body to keep you cool. The springs are cone-shaped so they can become almost entirely flat. They also help add further cooling capabilities.

All of this technology does come at a cost though. It’s still not the most expensive mattress on the market but it’s definitely not the cheapest either. That means it does lose a few points for value for money.

It’s still an excellent buy though and definitely a mattress that should be considered – especially if you’re looking for a hybrid.

#4 – Emma (Our Rating = 9.3)

Emma Mattress Review

The self-proclaimed ‘most awarded mattress in the UK’, you’re entitled to have high expectations of the Emma mattress.

And to be fair, for most people, those expectations will be met. There’s good reason why this mattress has won so many awards. For starters, it’s pretty comfortable and there are choices of memory foam or hybrid mattresses.

The price is also very likeable, particularly on the memory foam version which starts from just £299 for a single. The 200-night trial period will set any cautious minds at rest and the 10-year warranty is pretty standard but comforting nonetheless.

The downside is that front sleepers may struggle with comfort levels and the edge support could be better. Overall though, this is one of the better mattresses we have reviewed.

#5 – REM-Fit (Our Rating = 9.3)

REM-Fit Mattress Review

Offering one of the best full ranges of varied mattresses, there’s a REM-Fit mattress for almost everyone.

Our particular favourite is the REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid Mattress which offers a great blend of quality and value. However, the slightly cheaper REM-Fit 400 is still an excellent choice, while those who prefer a softer feel can opt for the REM-Fit 600.

Whichever mattress you opt for there is a 100-night trial period and a lengthy 15-year warranty which should set even the most apprehensive minds at rest.

The company is very well rated and has won numerous awards making them an excellent choice providing you are happy to pay the price tag that comes with them.

#6 – Una (Our Rating = 9.3)

Una Mattress Review

There are a few stand-out features of the Una mattress including the fact it has fully customisable firmness levels.

However, it’s mostly known for being a 100% organic mattress? What does that mean exactly? Well, it means there are no nasty chemicals or foul-smelling synthetic materials. That also means it’s more suitable for those with asthma or allergies.

Naturally, a mattress made of organic material will be more expensive to produce, and that’s reflected in the price. However, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Una isn’t an expensive mattress. It’s pretty reasonable really considering what you get.

The downside is that it’s a latex foam mattress which won’t suit everyone. You may find the edges don’t offer as much support as a sprung mattress or hybrid, for instance.

You can find out more in our full Una mattress review.

#7 – OTTY (Our Rating = 9.2)

Otty Mattress Review

If price is one of your key considerations, the OTTY mattress is well worth a look as it offers lower priced options than many of its rivals.

That shouldn’t be mistaken for a signal of it being inferior though, this is still an extremely good mattress with many glowing reviews from past customers.

It’s a hybrid mattress so you get the best of both worlds along with a fairly industry standard 100-night trial so you can check whether it’s the right comfort level for you (it’s classed as a medium-firm mattress by the way).

The only downside is there are some reports that the lifespan of the mattress isn’t always great which calls into question overall value for money a little. However, it does come with a 10-year guarantee which should help dispel some of those concerns.

You can find out more in our full OTTY mattress review.

#8 – eve (Our Rating = 9.0)

Eve Mattress Review

As far as recognisable online mattress brands go, the eve mattress is one of the best-known around.

That’s because their advertising budget means you’ll often see their newspaper, magazine and billboard ads. That’s particularly true if you use public transport in London.

Of course, just because they are heavily advertised, it doesn’t mean they are the best. In our review, they scored relatively highly in all categories without really standing out in any one area.

That means it’s a good mattress without really blowing you away. That said, it is one of the more reasonably priced standard mattress out there. That’s a pleasant surprise for a brand that advertises so much.

You can find out more in our full eve mattress review.

#9 – Tweak (Our Rating = 8.9)

Tweak Mattress Review

As the most customisable mattress out there, there’s a lot going for the Tweak mattress. For one, it’s probably one of the most comfortable out there.

That’s because you can use different types of foam inserts so that different parts of your body are supported in different ways. Since you can unzip the cover and re-arrange the inserts whenever you like, there are few mattresses that can offer such levels of custom comfort.

There’s also a mattress designed for couples that features different firmness levels on each side of the bed. The downside is it can take a little trial and error to get right, and it’s one of the more expensive online mattress brands out there.

You can find out more in our full Tweak mattress review.

#10 – HomyLink (Our Rating = 8.7)

HomyLink Mattress Review

If you’re looking for a budget mattress that will cost you a fraction of the cost of the bigger brands, look no further than HomyLink.

Sure, you won’t be getting the same quality levels, a fact that’s reflected by the pretty short 3-month warranty. However, you will be getting what’s probably the best mattress you can buy for under £250.

There are four different types of mattresses to choose from, each combining springs with foam layers. There’s a 100-night trial just like with the bigger brands too.

Essentially, if you don’t have the budget for the other brands we’ve reviewed, or you simply can’t bring yourself to spend £500+ on a mattress, HomyLink is your best option.

Are Online Mattresses Worth It?

One of the things you’re probably wondering is whether it’s worth buying an online mattress. For sure, there are some disadvantages. Our online mattress reviews can help you narrow your choices down, but should you be buying one in the first place?

Here are a few things you should consider…

Testing Out The Mattress

For one thing, unlike buying a mattress in a store, you can’t test it out before you buy. However, that may not be as a big a disadvantage as it first appears.

Testing a mattress in-store

Most online mattresses offer long trial periods of 100 nights or more. The chances are, this will be a much better test of whether it’s right for you than the rather awkward 30 second test you can do in the unnatural setting of a mattress shop!

While many mattress stores offer trial periods too, they’re often shorter trials than online brands. Plus, mattress stores will usually only give you a credit note to buy a different mattress from them if your chosen one isn’t right for you. Online brands will usually refund all of your money.

Cutting Out The Middle Man

When you buy a mattress from a physical store, you’re unlikely to be buying from the manufacturer. Instead, you’ll probably be buying from a store that sells all kind of different brands.

While that will give you plenty of choice, it also means the store your buying from will be taking their own cut. When you buy an online mattress, you’re much more likely to be buying directly from the manufacturer.

While this doesn’t guarantee a lower price, more often than not it gives you better value for money.

Improving Technology

Another reason that many people are turning to online mattresses is the ever-improving technology they use. It does seem to be the online brands that are mostly pushing forward with innovative new ideas.

As our online mattress reviews show, there is a high level of competition between the brands available. That’s leading to some really interesting solutions emerging.

While it would be unfair to say there are no offline mattress brands that are innovating, we do feel the online ones, on the whole, have the edge.

Reading Reviews

One thing that’s hard to do in a physical store is get honest, independent advice. Sure, you can ask the sales staff questions, but ultimately they are trained to sell the mattresses that store sells.

They’ll be knowledgeable, but also biased. Whereas if you go online, you can use online mattress reviews from experts and past customers to help inform your decision and get your questions answered.

That’s highlighted four key areas where we think online mattresses are worth considering.

There are also things such as the added convenience of being able to buy online and get the mattress delivered to your bedroom in a matter of days.

With all that in mind, we definitely feel like online mattress are worth it.

How To Find The Best Online Mattress

Finding the best online mattress

Reading online mattress reviews is one obvious way to find the most highly-rated brands and mattresses. But, what about finding the best online mattress for you? What should you look out for?

Here are a few things to look out for:

1) Do They Offer The Right Size?

It sounds like an obvious one, but does the mattress you want come in the right size for you? It’s easier and cheaper to find a mattress in the right size then have to buy a whole new bed! For most people this won’t be a problem, but if you have an unusual bed size then it could be.

While many brands stock EU sizes as well as small doubles and singles, not all do. If you need a mattress in one of these sizes, narrowing down what your choices are is vital.

2) Is The Comfort Level Right For You?

Our online mattress reviews have found that most UK brands offer a medium-firm level of firmness. This is because it’s the most universal when it comes to support and comfort no matter what position you normally sleep in.

Still, memory foam mattress usually give more of a ‘sink-in’ comfort feeling, whereas hybrids tend to have a little more bounce and feeling of support. So, the choice between foam or hybrid could be important for you too.

3) What Guarantees Do You Have?

Buying an online mattress comes with many benefits, but the downside is you won’t be able to test it out until you’ve paid for it. That’s why having some form of trial period is so important. Look for at least 30 nights.

A long warranty period (at least 10 years) is also a good indicator you’re getting a quality mattress.

4) What Do Past Customers Say?

Reading online mattress reviews from past customers is another great way to be sure whether you’re buying the best mattress.

In all of our reviews we provide some insight as to what customers say about the mattress in question.

We use these ratings and comments to help score the mattress. That means, if we’ve rated a mattress highly, it’s because it has lot’s of good customer reviews.

5) Does It Offer Value For Money?

In most cases, the cheapest or most expensive mattress will not be the one that offers the best value for money. Cheap ones are unlikely to have the quality that lasts, making them false economy. Expensive ones are unlikely to be able to justify their higher price tag.

That means, for most people, the best online mattress will be one that is somewhere close to averagely priced. That will give you a good balance between quality, features, and longevity.
