Nectar mattress review – This well-known brand ticks a lot of boxes that helps to make it one of the highest-rated online mattresses around.

So, is the Nectar mattress worth buying? We are about to find out as we conduct a detailed review so you can see what’s good and bad about the brand.

In Short

The stand-out point of our Nectar mattress review is that this is a brand focused on both comfort and quality. There’s a massive 365-night trial which dwarfs the trial lengths of most online brands. Plus, there’s a ‘forever warranty’ which protects you for as long as you own the mattress.

As a company, you can’t offer either of these things unless your product is both highly comfortable and built to stand the test of time. That gives you a lot of confidence and puts this review off to an excellent start.

So, in addition to the massive trial and forever guarantee, you also get both cooling technology and hypoallergenic features too. The price is reasonable too. It’s not the cheapest mattress around but it’s not the most expensive either, meaning it’s good all-round value for money.

Is The Nectar Mattress Best For You?

Answer 4 simple questions below to get a personal recommendation on which mattress may work best for you:

Mattress Finder

Key Strengths

As with any online mattress, there are a number of pros and a number of cons that our Nectar mattress review has found. Let’s start with the plus points…

Long Trial Period

We’ve mentioned it before but at 365 nights, the Nectar mattress has one of the longest trial periods in the industry. Most of the competitors offer 90 days which means Nectar’s trial period is 4x as long.

Is that necessary? Well, strictly speaking, probably not. In most cases you’ll know if a mattress is right for you after around 30 nights. Therefore, to a large degree, the year-long trial offered by Nectar is a bit of a marketing gimmick.

However, what it does mean is that you get peace of mind that lasts a long, long time. At any point during the first 12 months of owning the mattress you can return it for a full refund.

A Warranty That Lasts ‘Forever’

We know, we know. We mentioned this advantage earlier too, but it’s such a big one we didn’t feel we could leave it out here. Again, they have smashed away what their competitors offer to give the best warranty in the industry.

Rather than the 10 years which is typical in online mattress brands, nectar give you a lifetime warranty. That means if your mattress develops any faults in the entire time you own it, they’ll repair or replace it free of charge.

As with most warranties, that doesn’t cover you for normal wear and tear or accidental damage. However, it is a commitment that you’ll never have to put up with a manufacturing fault even if it appears 20 years or more from now.

High Levels Of Support

Strictly speaking, it isn’t an orthopaedic mattress, however it does still offer incredibly good levels of support. That’s because you have multiple layers all designed to help support your body where it needs it the most.

There’s pressure-relieving memory foam just below the cooling memory foam layer, and that sits on a base that has 7 different zones to target support where you need it.

The downside of this support is that it makes the mattress slightly firmer than some may like. However, if you’re a fan of soft mattresses you’ll be pleased to know you can soon get used to a firmer, more supportive mattress – and if you cant – that’s what the 365-night trial is there for.

Key Weaknesses

Nectar Mattress Review

Now it’s time for our Nectar mattress review to move on to what isn’t so good about the brand. As with anything, it’s always important to consider the negatives alongside the positives.

Too Firm For Some

We mentioned this briefly in the previous section but the customer reviews are clear that not everyone gets on with the firmness of the mattress.

The Nectar is classed as a ‘Medium-Firm’ mattress, though it’s on the firmer end of of that rating. That means you’ll find it doesn’t have quite the same ‘sinking feeling’ that you’ll get from softer ‘medium-firm’ mattresses.

The advantage of this is increased support, making it arguably better for you. However, some people struggle to get used to it and need to return their mattress under the 365-night trial. That’s exactly what it’s therefore though so even if you have doubts about the comfort levels, it’s still worth testing.

Reports Of Initial Smell

We suspect there may be some storage issues with the brand as several of the Nectar mattress reviews from customers mention the mattress being a little smelly after being unboxed.

While all mattresses have a ‘new’ smell it does seem that some of the smell of a Nectar mattress comes from it being stored in damp conditions before delivery.

Of course, it’s possible to get rid of damp smells over time so it’s perhaps not a deal-breaker. However, you may want to consider keeping your old mattress for an extra week or so and only switching to your Nectar mattress once any smell has subsided.

Nectar Mattress Reviews from Customers

We’ve mentioned some of the issues a minority of customers have raised, but how about the rest? Here are some recent Nectar mattress reviews from customers:

Very good price on the mattress. Comfortable but not to firm good support. Very impressed with this mattress for the price I paid. Would definitely recommend

Paul Musk via 5-star review on Trustpilot

The most comfortable mattress I’ve slept on for a long time. It’s SO good that I have bought three – one for each of the beds in my house! The mattress is great for my back. It is so much better than the very expensive mattress I had previously. Well done Nectar!

Linda via 5-star review on Trustpilot

It’s been more than a year since we purchased our Nectar double bed. I can say that it is still as comfortable to sleep on as the first time we slept on it. We barely rotate the bed to distribute the wear but it still managed to maintain its shape and ability to support our weight. Happy with our purchase.

Comfort, Firmness & Support

Nectar Mattress Firmness

Since comfort is a subjective thing, our Nectar mattress review looks at several factors to determine the likely comfort level for the majority of people.

For instance, we know that a ‘Medium-Firm’ mattress tends to be the most universal. Most people, regardless of the position they tend to sleep in will find a ‘medium-firm’ mattress comfortable.

This is certainly true for the Nectar mattress, however, it is on the firmer end of the ‘medium-firm’ scale which means some may find it more difficult to get used to.

The advantage of this extra firmness though is excellent support combined with the memory foam to help give a relaxing sleep.

There are different support levels at your shoulders and hips to what there is at your feet. In fact, there are 7 different zones that give a really good feel to the mattress.

The memory foam layers give just the right level of ‘sinking’ to make you feel at ease without introducing problems with motion transfer. In fact, the Nectar mattress performs very well when it comes to cutting out movement from your partner, allowing you to sleep soundly even when they are tossing and turning!

Materials & Construction

Nectar Mattress Inner

This is the part of our Nectar mattress review where we take you through each layer so you understand what’s under the cover.

As with all good mattresses, there’s a lot of complicated technology and science going on but we’ll do our best to keep our explanations short and simple.

Adaptive Cooling Cover

We love the cover on the Nectar mattress as it oozes quality but also plays a vital role in helping you to stay cool. It’s custom-designed for the Nectar and helps draw away warm air while circulating cooler air so you don’t overheat at night.

Smart Memory Foam Layer

Memory foam will typically make you quite warm, however the Nectar mattress uses a smart memory foam in its first inner layer. It’s made to adapt your body shape while also giving better performance when it comes to moving heat and moisture away from your body.

Pressure-Relieving Memory Foam

The second memory foam layer in the mattress is designed more for support. It’s not as close to the body and so heat transfer isn’t as critical. So, this layer focuses more on giving you support where you need it.

7 Zone Supportive Base

The base is where all the fancy stuff happens to ensure the different areas of your body get the right level of support they need. It’s also where much of the motion transfer is absorbed so one partners movements do not affect the other persons quality of sleep.

Positioning Base Material

The fabric around the lower part of the Nectar mattress isn’t just there for looks, it’s not even there just to protect the inner layers. It’s actually used to help stop the mattress moving around on the base. That means, once your mattress is in place, it should stay there (until you need to rotate it!).

Nectar Mattress Awards

Nectar Sleep Awards

Our Nectar mattress review has found that this is a brand that has won many awards over the last few years.

In 2019 alone it took home 4 awards from the likes of Real Homes, Evening Standard, Good Housekeeping Institute, and Ideal Home. That shows that it’s a well-respected mattress even among some of the UK’s leading publications.

Nectar Mattress – 365 Night Trial

What else can we say about Nectar’s industry-leading trial period? It seems almost crazy that you could sleep on a mattress for a year before returning it because you’ve decided it’s not right for you.

Yet, that’s exactly what Nectar Sleep offer, such is their confidence that you’ll find the comfort and support levels just right.

We know we always say that 30 nights should be long enough to get a good enough ‘feel’ for whether a mattress is right for you or not. However, we have to admit, being able to test a mattress for 12 months, though spring, summer, autumn, and winter is certainly not a bad thing.

Plus, if you decide to make a return under the trial period, it’s a pretty simple process too. Nectar will arrange the return and you’ll get all of your money back. You can even arrange all of this via email.

That means the trial is actually a huge selling point and one of the reasons why we rate the Nectar mattress so highly.

Delivery, Warranty & Returns

Nectar Sleep Warranty

One thing we always like to check, and our Nectar mattress review is no different in that respect, is how shipping works and what it costs.

The good news is that Nectar offer free shipping with their mattress. Better yet, you get to choose your day of delivery too. That means you can ensure it fits around your schedule and that you’ll be home when it arrives.

By default, deliveries are only to your door. That means you’ll need to take the mattress to your bedroom yourself. However, for an extra £20 you can choose to have the delivery team take the mattress straight to where you need it.

They do also offer an option to have your old mattress removed and recycled for £35.

However, you should be aware that this is not done by the same team as the ones who will deliver your mattress and so you may have some overlap where you have two mattresses at once.

With this in mind, you may be better off using your local council collection service. Many councils offer free removals, or at least will charge less than the £35 Nectar charge. If you do it this way, we recommending waiting until you have your Nectar mattress and are happy with it before arranging your council collection of the old mattress.

Pricing & Overall Value For Money

The prices below were all correct at the time of conducting our Nectar mattress review:

Original Mattress:

  • Single = £599
  • Small Double = £699
  • Double = £699
  • King = £799
  • Super-King = £899

If you’re looking for a cheap mattress, Nectar isn’t the best choice for you. Their prices are reasonable, in fact, they are fairly average compared to similar online brands. However, they aren’t mattresses you would class as ‘cheap’ either.

And that’s not their intention either. There’s too much science and quality in their mattresses to be able to offer it at low costs. Instead, you get a good mattress at a fair price, plus of course the unbeatable 365-night trial period and lifetime warranty.

Nectar Mattress Review – Summary

Nectar Mattress Review

We’ve covered a lot in our Nectar mattress review, yet there are still a few things we haven’t mentioned.

For instance, the brand only use manufacturers in Britain and their mattresses are classified as climate neutral. That’s something more brands could perhaps learn from.

By far though, the biggest things that set Nectar Sleep apart from most of their rivals is the year-long trial period and ‘forever’ warranty period. No one else gets close which gives you a lot of confidence about the quality of mattress you’re getting.

Sure, the price isn’t the lowest on the market, but nor would you expect to be either given the quality you’re getting.

While there are some reports of customers finding it difficult to get used to the slightly firmer ‘medium-firm’ rating, the vast majority of customers seem very happy with their purchase.

That sets Nectar out as one of the leading online mattress brands in the UK and means it scores pretty highly on our own review too.

With everything considered, we feel the Nectar mattress is an excellent choice and most people will be more than happy if they decide to buy this brand.
