#1 – Mela Comfort (Our Rating = 9.4)

Another very popular blanket, the Mela Comfort has few who can rival it’s overall quality, though that does come at a cost.

However, they do say you get what you pay for and so many people will find the slightly higher than average price is worth it for what you get in return.

The outer layer of the Mela Comfort blanket is 100% cotton which helps keeps it breathable. Plus, you get a 100 night trial so the purchase comes with a much lower risk level if you’re unsure whether a weighted blanket will help you.

The downside is thatthe inner blanket is only machine washable and there’s only one type of blanket to choose from. Though it does come in four different weights and two different sizes.

#2 – Sommio (Our Rating = 9.1)

Perhaps the biggest appeal of Sommio is that they have a ‘build a blanket’ function that allows you to fully customise your blanket.

But, even if you don’t want to use that feature, they still have one of the largest ranges of ‘off the shelf’ weighted blankets in the UK.

The quality of Sommio blankets is also very good since they made the switch from plastic to glass beads. Plus, each blanket is hand-sewn and comes with free delivery.

The big sticking point is that our weighted blanket reviews found that Sommio blankets are some of the most expensive on the UK market. That means the overall value for money they offer could be considered to be lower that of some of the other brands.

#3 – Gravity Blankets (Our Rating = 8.8)

If funds are tight then Gravity Blankets are one of the only brands we know that offer the option to pay in three instalments.

However, that should give you an early warning that these are by no means one of the cheaper brands on the market.

And so, despite the fact that Gravity Blankets use organic materials and offer a decent range including options for kids, they still score relatively low on the ‘value for money’ scale.

Also, while there is a ‘sleep trial’, you’ll probably be disappointed to learn it only lasts 28 days which isn’t far off the standard returns policy you’ll get elsewhere.

#4 – BlanQuil (Our Rating = 8.5)

This brand hit the headlines in the US after reality TV star Kourtney Kardashian said it was giving her the best nights sleep.

However, the brand has seemingly stayed very much focused on the US market and, as a result, only a couple of the main product lines are available on the BlanQuil Amazon UK store.

Unfortunately, they also come with import duties and shipping costs that push the price up significantly. Ultimately it means you’re getting a good quality blanket but the value for money is taking a substantial hit.

#5 – SNUZI LIFE (Our Rating = 8.3)

As a brand that has been featured in the national press, you’re entitled to expect a little more from SNUZI LIFE than they actually deliver.

Sure, when it comes to quality, they don’t do a lot wrong. There’s a cotton filling and glass beads as used by all the leading brands.

However, there’s very little other information on the SNUZI LIFE website about what their blankets are made from and how they’re actually made. Plus, the number of choices is very limited (just 3 weights and 2 sizes at the time of writing).

To add insult to injury, the products are regularly shown as out of stock so even if you did want one, you may find it difficult to get hold of. It’s not a bad blanket by any means but we definitely feel there are better options available.

Why Use A Weighted Blanket?

It’s OK looking at weighted blanket reviews, but you also need to ask whether you even need a weighted blanket in the first place.

Ultimately that will depend on what you want one for. Some of the things that weighted blankets are thought to help with include:

• Insomnia
• ADHD
• Restless leg syndrome
• Stress

That’s by no means an exhaustive list but it also doesn’t mean if your condition is mention that weighted blankets will definitely work for you. Though reading weighted blanket reviews from people with the same condition as you may help give you a better idea of their likely success for you.

How To Find The Best Weighted Blanket

Looking at weighted blanket reviews is obviously one way to establish which weighted blankets are the best in the UK. However, as mentioned earlier, you actually need to find the best one for your needs and budget.

That means asking a few questions to narrow down your options…

1) Is The Blanket Breathable?

This will depend on the type of material used. In general, avoid any blankets that use high amounts of artificial fabrics such as polyester. Instead, stick to ones that mostly use cotton.

That will help ensure the blanket is warm but doesn’t simply make you sweat, particularly in the warmer months.

2) Does The Filling Use Glass Beads?

Some older and inferior quality weighted blankets use plastic beads as their filling. This creates a number of problems.

Firstly, it makes the blanket less breathable as plastic does not allow air to pass through. Secondly, plastic is relatively light and so blankets with plastic filling tend to be much thicker and bulkier. Plus, of course there is also the environmental impact of plastic that you may wish to consider.

Try and stick to glass bead fillings instead. Because glass is heavier, fewer beads need to be used which means more air gaps can be left to achieve the breathability that is difficult to do with plastic.

3) Are The Pockets Small?

The filling of your chosen weighted blanket should be contained within individual pockets or pouches spread evenly across the blanket. This is how a consistent weight is achieved.

However, if the pockets are too large you’ll find the filling collects in certain areas and severely impacts the comfort and effectiveness of the blanket. Lots of smaller pockets are therefore preferable to fewer larger pockets.

Of course, some of these factors may be more important to you than others. Depending on your budget you may also need to make some sacrifices to get a weighted blanket at a price you can afford.
