Sommio review – the Sommio brand creates hand-crafted weighted blankets that they claim have no rival on the market.

In Short

Their weighted blankets are presented as therapeutic, and the company states they hold medical status in Europe, which is what differentiates them from other weighted blankets out there.

This Sommio weighted blanket review is ready to test that and see if their claims are accurate.

What You Need to Know

The Sommio weighted blankets target both adults and children who are looking for a way to improve their sleep, reduce anxiety, or enhance body awareness.

According to the brand’s official website, the Sommio weighted blankets can be used while sleeping, relaxing or meditating.

Sommio offers quite a large variety of products to choose from. Let’s start this Sommio review with their best-seller, the weighted blankets themselves. You can opt for their signature product, the Cocoon Weighted Blanket or you can build your own.

The Cocoon Weighted Blanket is available in different sizes. However, at the moment, you can only buy it in an adult medium, which is 135 x 200cm. You can choose your preferred weight for this size between 6kg, 8kg, and 10kg. The brand also allows you to choose the pocket size, between Prime and Standard.

From a review point of view, this is a plus, since not many other brands have this option, and you might enjoy it. You will also enjoy the way the Sommio website is constructed.

They have weight and pocket size guides right beneath the options, which will come in very handy. They also provide you with a sliding scale that will teach you how to choose the best blanket weight for your body.

‘Build your own’ option

If you choose to build your own Sommio weighted blanket, you have a huge selection of choices. A fantastic thing to mention here is that Sommio offers customisable weighted blankets for children as well, seeing as most brands only cater to adults.

As mentioned, you get to choose from an array of sizes that go from Child Small all the way to Adult Large. The weights go from 4kg to 12kg and that’s not all. Sommio also gives you the option to select your preferred fabric.

The selection includes Blue Anchor, Plain Gray, Gray Star, Blue Star, Black Butterfly, Forest, and more. As far as the Sommio weighted blanket review goes, this is a pro, seeing as most brands only offer gray or white blankets.

You can also choose whether or not you would like a cover to go with your weighted blanket.

Sommio also sells a Weighted Duvet that comes in one option – 130 x 200cm and it weighs 5kg. The duvet is white and has a blue piped hemline.

In case you need them, you can also buy Sommio blanket covers. They come in the same exact fun designs as the weighted blankets and are made of high-quality cotton. They are all one size and are priced the same – £34.99 – £39.99, no matter the design you choose.

Is The Sommio The Best Choice For You?

Answer 4 simple questions below to get a personal recommendation on which weighted blanket brand is most likely to suit you:

Fabrics and Construction

Sommio Review

This is a very important topic when it comes to Sommio and their products, seeing as they pride themselves both in the quality of their materials and the way their weighted blankets are made.

As far as materials go, Sommio states that all of their products are made of 100% high-quality European cotton, as opposed to other brands that use a blend of polyester. The weighted blankets are filled with glass microspheres, not plastic pellets for two reasons.

Glass is hypo-allergenic and better suited for sensitive sleepers. And the brand wanted to make the move to a more conscientious material that would not harm the environment.

Apart from that, the cover is double sided and is made of smooth velvet and plush fabric that will provide tactile stimulation. Sommio prides itself in not using cheap fabrics such as Minky or microfibre.

According to the brand, all the Sommio products are made in Europe and are hand-sewn. Not only that, all the weighted blankets have been filled by hand with the same amount of glass beads.

Price

As it might have been expected after reading the Sommio weighted blanket review so far, the products are more expensive than others in their range.

The brand’s signature item, the Cocoon Weighted Blanket’s price will depend on the different options you choose.

For example, at the moment of writing this Sommio review, the only size available for the weighted blanket is the Adult Medium. That, coupled with, let’s say a medium weight of 8kg and the Standard Pocket Size (as opposed to Prime which would be more expensive) comes in at £174.99, on sale from £189.99. This is what their Cocoon Weighted Blanket costs on average.

Let’s do the same exercise for the Build Your Blanket option. The average size is the Adult Medium, coupled with a weight of 8kg, a Blue Anchor Design, and a Cotton Cover also in the Blue Anchor design, brings us in at £164.99.

The Weighted Duvet only comes in one size and weight and it costs £124.99. While the Blanket Covers have different designs to choose from and the same price of £34.99 – £39.99.

Sommio will also grant you a discount if you are a commercial client or if you have a larger order. To see what that discount will be, you will have to use the contact form they provide on their website, and they will contact you back as soon as possible.

It should be noted that all prices were correct at the time of conducting our Sommio review but we recommend checking their website for any changes.

Sommio Reviews from Customers

The cover has the softest velvety feel, and unlike other blankets, I can remove it to clean it. I purchased the 9kg weight, and feel its perfect for us. Even so, it comes as quite a shock to feel the weight of the blanket if you’re not used to it. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

How to Clean and Care

As opposed to other types of weighted blankets, you are allowed to clean this one in your washing machine. However, according to the Sommio website the inner part of the blanket, which is weighted, could prove to be too heavy for your washing machine.

The best thing to do is to check what is the maximum load you can put in before trying to clean it this way. If not, you can always use a cover for your weighted blanket so that it doesn’t get dirty. The covers are far easier to clean.

The brand advises you to use their weighted blankets with the designated covers, seeing as they might bunch up under a normal cover.

Shipping, Warranty, and Returns

All deliveries within the UK are free, no matter what you buy. They are also very fast, as the company strives to deliver the items to you in as little as two business days. That is what they claim on their official website.

They also offer a 21-nights trial run during which you can return or exchange your weighted blanket should you not like it. From a review point of view, this is both a pro and a con.

It’s a good thing that they offer such a trial period, but it is rather limited compared to other brands on the market who have much longer trial periods.

Please be aware that the weighted blankets bought or ordered via the Build Your Blanket option do not qualify for returns, given their unique nature. You will only be able to return the Cocoon Weighted Blanket, the Weighted Duvet, and the covers.

One potentially significant downside our Sommio review has found is that returns are not free. The company charges £15 per return or exchange of an item bought off their website.

Sommio Review – Conclusion

It’s time to conclude this exhaustive Sommio weighted blanket review. As we’ve seen, Sommio produces high-quality weighted blankets that, unlike others in this niche, are hand-crafted, as they state on their website. They only use European cotton and glass beads to ensure maximum comfort.

One thing that makes them stand out is the fact that Sommio offers plenty of options to choose from when it comes to their weighted blankets. Another pro is the idea that their blankets are also suited for children, as they claim.

However, none of their products come in cheap, and this is an important factor to take into account. Still, their wonderful range, high-quality materials, and great reviews allow us to recommend Sommio to you, if you have the budget for it.

However, we do feel the Mela Comfort weighted blanket offers better value overall.
