Is The Una Mattress Best For You?

Key Strengths

Let’s look at the key strengths we have identified during the course of our Una mattress review:

Company Age

Una has been making natural mattresses for more than three decades. The overall aim of the company was to produce an organic and healthy mattress that could deliver blissful comfort.

Una eliminated the fire retardant chemicals, industrial glues, and toxic smelling petrochemicals that you’ll often find in a synthetic mattress.

The company insists on using organic materials, so you can breath easy from the very first night.

Mattress Quality

Una mattresses are made using 100% organic wool, latex, and cotton. These materials are naturally fire retardant, so there is no need for harsh and potentially toxic chemicals to make the mattress safe.

Una has designed a mattress with multiple layers of organic latex firm. These foams are soft, medium, and firm to create a comfortable finish. Each of the layers has seven zones to provide perfect support.

Even the cover of the Una mattress is made from organic wool and cotton. This finishing touch ensures your optimum comfort. The wool wicks away moisture to help you avoid feeling damp, while the cotton keeps you feeling cool and comfortable.

Range Of Benefits

The Una mattress aims to provide complete comfort regardless of your firmness preferences.

The seven zone mattress is specially engineered to gently support the contours of your body. You can assemble your mattress to create your desired comfort level.

The organic latex layers can be unrolled into the zipped cover in the order that you prefer. Your sleep partner can also do the same. So, you can both have a firm, soft or medium mattress to suit your preferences within one natural mattress.

What makes the Una mattress stand apart from many foam mattresses is that it is completely organic. The latex is made from the sap of Hevea trees. So, there are no smelly chemicals, and you don’t need to air out the mattress to eliminate unpleasant odours.

Una is available in multiple sizes; UK single, Euro single, UK small double, UK double, Euro double, UK king, Euro king, and UK super king. There is also a Junior and Baby Una mattress.

No Una mattress review would be complete without discussing sleep positions. While many foam mattresses are unsuitable for certain positions, Una is suited to all sleep positions. There are seven zones to ensure that you enjoy a deep night’s sleep.

Key Weaknesses

Una Mattress Review

Of course, no Una mattress review could be considered fair without covering some of the negative points. Here’s what we found:

Sinkage

Most foam mattresses have some issues with sinkage, and the Una is no exception. You can expect to experience a couple of centimetres of sinkage over time, if you are an average weight.

However, heavier sleepers may find they get more sinkage, which could compromise the overall performance.

Edge Support

Again, foam mattresses can have serious issues with edge support. The Una mattress offers the edge support as you would expect.

This means that if you like to sit on the edge of your bed to tie your shoes or get dressed, you may feel a little unstable.

Motion Transfer

Because of the flexible ways that you can arrange the Una mattress layers, you can mitigate the motion transfer issues of regular foam mattresses. The Una does have some bounce to it, and there will be more motion transferred if you share your bed with a heavy mover.

Additionally, those who like a firmer feel, such as a heavy tummy sleeper, may find the Una a little lacking.

Una Mattress Reviews from Customers

Una has an “Excellent” rating on Trustpilot, so it is clearly a favourite among customers.

We had decided to replace our sprung mattress, we wanted something different. Reviewed all types on the Web we liked the idea of being able to alter the latex layers to suit our needs and chose the Una Elite and we haven’t looked back. Excellent service and product

Comfort, Firmness & Support

Una Mattress Comfort

An essential part of any Una mattress review is the comfort and support it offers.

As we’ve touched on above, the layers of the Una mattress allow you to configure it in any way you wish. Each layer is labelled to show its firmness, so you can decide whether you want the medium on top or the firm on the bottom.

Additionally, each mattress contains two separate halves that allow you to configure it to suit both sleepers.

The seven zones of the mattress ensure that you have adequate support. It also doesn’t matter which end you have as the head, since zones 1 and 7, 2 and 6, and 3 and 5 have the same support.

Materials & Construction

Una Mattress Materials

Now, we’ll get a little technical. In this part of our Una mattress review, we’ll look at the layers and construction of the mattress. Since there are multiple layers, we’ll look at each.

Top Cover

Una has a soft organic cotton and wool cover. This allows air to naturally circulate, while wicking away moisture, so you remain comfortable and cool.

The Three Layers

There are three layers of foam consisting of a soft, medium, and firm layer, which are 75kg/m3, 85kg/m3, and 95kg/m3 respectively.

In the UK, these foam layers have a minimum of 80% organic natural latex. There is also 20% natural carbon in the form of organic graphite. This is so the Una mattress complies with the fire laws in the UK without the need to add any fire retardant chemicals.

With all layers in place, the Una mattress has a total height of 24 centimetres.

Compatibility

One of the most attractive features of the Una mattress is that it is compatible with multiple types of base. You can use it with a slatted or flat frame, solid box spring, or adjustable base.

Una Mattress Awards

Una Mattress Awards

Despite being relatively new on the market, the Una mattress has already received some excellent press. It was awarded a 2018 Green Product Award as the first certified organic mattress in a box in the world.

Una Mattress – 100 Night Trial

The Una team appreciates that it can take time to get used to a new mattress. So, the company offers a 100 night free trial. The company allows you to try the mattress in your home risk free.

If you’re not completely happy with the mattress, you can have it collected or free and receive a full refund.

At any point during the 100 days after the delivery of your mattress, you can send Una an email to start the returns process. The company will arrange a pick up, and once it arrives back in the Una warehouse, they will issue your refund.

Delivery, Warranty & Returns

Una Mattress Warranty

Unlike many other types of mattress in a box, the Una organic mattress does not come vacuum packed into a really heavy box. This mattress needs a little more breathing space, so it is actually packed into two or three boxes. This makes it easier to handle and move into your home.

All orders in the UK mainland are eligible for free delivery.

If you live in Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Scottish highlands and islands, and the Republic of Ireland, your order will incur a shipping charge. This is calculated automatically at checkout.

In addition to the 100 night trial, Una is so confident in the quality of the mattress; it is supplied with a 10 year warranty against manufacturing defects and material faults.

The guarantee is non transferable, but entitles the customer to free replacement or repair, depending on the nature of the fault, within the guarantee period.

You need to report any fault or defect within six weeks of the issue arising and before the end of the guarantee period. You will need to provide proof of purchase, the date you first noticed the defect, and a detailed description of the fault.

In some circumstances, you may need to provide pictures to assist with the claim. Una also aims to make the returns process simple. You simply need to send an email, and Una will arrange a free return.

Una Mattress Review – Summary

Una Mattress Review

To sum up this Una mattress review, this is a great product available at a reasonable price. It is not the most expensive mattress on the market, yet it is made with 100% organic materials.

Where this mattress stands apart from its competitors is its flexibility. You can swap and change the configurations of the foam layers to find your ideal sleep comfort.

Additionally, there is no need to squabble with your sleep partner, since they can also configure their side of the mattress. Regardless of whether you prefer a soft, medium, or firm mattress, the seven comfort zones ensure that your head, neck, hips, ankles, and spine are fully supported.

The other attractive feature of the Una mattress is that there are no potentially harmful petrochemicals used during manufacturing.

This means that you don’t need to worry about fumes or nasty chemical smells that are common when you first unpack a foam mattress. This is not only great for you, but it’s better for the planet. In fact, the Una mattress is one of the few mattresses in the world that has a negative carbon footprint.

All of these benefits are great selling points in themselves. But, the Una mattress is also supported by a 100 night trial and a 10 year guarantee. So, you can buy with complete confidence.

With free delivery and free returns, all these plus points make the Una mattress worth serious consideration.
